John Currin
John Currin was born in 1962 in Boulder, CO. He received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and an MFA from Yale University. Currin now lives and works in New York.
John Currin's work draws upon a broad range of cultural influences that include Renaissance oil paintings, 1950s women's magazine advertisements, and contemporary politics. He has been featured in more than 20 solo exhibitions, including "John Currin," a paintings exhibition organized in 2003 by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, which traveled to the Serpentine Gallery, London, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. His drawings were the subject of a 2003 solo exhibition organized by the Des Moines Art Center, and which traveled to the Aspen Art Museum and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Currin's paintings and drawings are the subject of a 2006 monograph, to be co-published by Rizzoli and Gagosian Gallery. He lives and works in New York.
