BiographyHe trained at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Carlos in Valencia and became associated with avant-garde movements as a young man, joining the short-lived Grupo Parpalló (1956–9), which sought to inject new energy into Valencian art, and the GRUPO HONDO (1961–4). Like other artists who reacted against Art informel, he reintroduced figurative images in his pictures, in his case either through the use of collage or by the incorporation of photographic or cinematic motifs (a method suggested by Pop art).
